Why aren’t my X/Twitter messages showing up?
Are your posts on X not showing up? First, check where they are missing: on your profile, in the timeline, in search, or in a second account. Often, the cause is a protected account, a search filter, sensitive content, a temporary loading error, or an X restriction.
A post that does not appear in search results is not automatically deleted. According to X’s Help Center, not every post is shown in search. A timeline is also not a complete list of everything every account has posted.
With the checks below, you can find out step by step what is going on. Start with the safe checks and only then change settings.
Where exactly is your post missing?
First, open the direct address of the post. From your profile, tap the post and use the share option to copy the link. Then open that link in a private window or send it to a trusted second account.
Next, check these four places:
- The regular Posts tab on your profile.
- The Posts and replies tab.
- The timeline of a follower.
- X search using the exact words from the post.
The result already tells you a lot. Is the post visible on your profile, but not in search? Then focus on search filters, account privacy, and relevance. Is the direct address not available either? Then the post may have been deleted, flagged, or restricted.
Also check whether you are signed in with the correct account. Many people manage multiple profiles in the same app. A post you publish on account A will of course not appear on the profile of account B.
Is there a temporary outage at X?
An outage is more likely when several things fail at the same time. For example, the timeline does not refresh, new posts do not load, media keeps hanging, and other users report the same issue.
Test this first without changing settings right away:
- refresh the page;
- open X in a browser;
- switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data;
- check whether other profiles load;
- ask one other person whether X works for them;
- wait a few minutes and try again.
Does your post work in the browser but not in the app? Then a local app issue is more likely than a general outage. If it works nowhere and more users are having problems, wait first. Reinstalling or changing a lot of privacy settings will not help with a platform outage.
For an important post, keep a copy of the text and media in advance. That way, you do not have to rewrite everything if there is a temporary error.
Which causes match which signal?
| Possible cause | Recognizable signal | Solution | Expected time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temporary app error | The website works, but the app does not | Close the app, update it, and test again | A few minutes |
| Protected account | Only approved followers can see posts | Check the privacy setting | Immediately after saving |
| Search filter | The post is on your profile, but not in search | Check Latest and safe search settings | Sometimes a few minutes |
| Sensitive content | You see a warning or media is missing in search | Check the media and search settings | Immediately or after processing |
| Restricted account | X shows a notice during sign-in | Follow the requested steps or appeal | Depends on the notice |
| Limited visibility | There is a label on a specific post | Read the reason and appeal if needed | Depends on the review |
| Old post | The post no longer appears in the short profile view | Use advanced search or the direct link | Immediately after a good search |
| Deleted post | The direct link says the post is unavailable | Check whether you or a connected app removed it | Not automatically recoverable |
Use this table as your starting point. Do not draw conclusions from one empty search result. Always check the direct post, your profile, and the view from another account.
Is your account protected?
With a protected account, only approved followers can see your posts. Protected posts do not appear publicly in X search or in external search engines. Even a reply to someone who does not follow you may be invisible to that person.
Open Settings and privacy, go to Privacy and safety, and look for the setting for your audience and post protection. Check whether this switch is intentionally turned on.
Do not simply turn protection off to test one problem. That could make previously protected posts public. First decide whether you really want your account public.
Do you want to stay private? Then have the other person send a follow request first and approve it. After that, test again with a new post or reply.
Why does a post not show in X search?
X says that not every post appears in search results. The search function tries to show relevant, credible, and safe content. So a missing search result does not automatically mean your account has a hidden penalty.
Check these points:
- your posts are not protected;
- your email address is confirmed;
- your profile has a name and short bio;
- the post does not contain possibly sensitive media;
- you are searching in Latest instead of only Top;
- the search terms really appear in the post;
- you have not accidentally blocked or muted yourself through another account;
- you are not repeatedly posting almost the same text or hashtag.
Safe search may exclude potentially sensitive content. Muted and blocked accounts can also disappear from your own results. That is why you should test from a clean second account. Do not use that account to bypass a block.
Do you want to review the settings for sensitive content properly? Then use the separate guide on enabling sensitive content on X.
Why don’t you see a reply under a conversation?
Replies can be ranked in different places. A reply may appear in the Posts and replies tab, but not clearly in the regular profile view.
With a protected account, there is an extra restriction. If you reply to someone who does not follow you, that person cannot see your protected reply. Only approved followers have access to protected posts.
The author of a post can also hide a reply within the conversation. In addition, X may rank replies lower or limit visibility when rules or quality signals call for it.
Open the direct address of your reply. Then check it from an account that follows you. That way, you can see whether the issue is account privacy or the conversation view.
Why are older posts missing from your profile?
A profile does not show an unlimited, complete history in every tab. The X Help Center mentions a view of 800 recent posts in the regular posts tab and 3,200 recent posts and replies in the expanded tab.
Older posts are therefore not automatically gone. They may fall outside the visible profile limit or not appear properly in a regular timeline or search query. Use a focused search with your username, recognizable words, and a date range.
If you deleted many posts in a short time, the visible count on your profile may temporarily no longer match the real content. X also warns about programs that delete large numbers of posts.
Do not delete even more posts just to fix the count. Wait first and search specifically for a known older post.
Can sensitive media limit visibility?
Yes. X can place possibly sensitive media behind a warning. Safe search settings can filter such content out of search results. Age and the presence of a birth date may also affect access to certain sensitive content.
That does not automatically mean the content has been removed. Open the direct post and read the notice. Also check whether you marked the media correctly.
If you post sensitive media often, X asks you to use the account setting that marks media as potentially sensitive. For a single post, you can add a suitable content warning while editing the image.
A warning does not give permission to post prohibited content. X rules still apply. Profile images and cover images also have stricter visibility requirements.
Can X limit a post’s visibility?
According to its own enforcement policy, X can limit the visibility of a post. In that case, a post may be missing from search, trends, recommended notifications, or timelines. It may also appear lower among replies or only be findable through the profile.
When X makes such a measure visible, there may be a label or notice on the post. Read that text in full. If you think the restriction is unfair, use the available appeal option.
Do not try to bypass a measure by posting the same content again on multiple accounts right away. Repeated or nearly identical content can be seen as untrustworthy behavior.
Review X’s rules. Only delete something if X asks you to, or if you decide yourself that the post should not stay up. Keep your own copy before deleting important content.
Can a restricted or locked account be the cause?
Yes. X can temporarily limit features when unusual activity or possible violations are detected. In a restricted state, sometimes only followers can see your activity. Posts can also be filtered out of search and notifications.
Log in and see whether X shows a clear notice. Follow only the official steps. That may include email confirmation, phone verification, a security question, or a request to remove content.
Never share a verification code with someone who offers help through a private message. Enter codes only in the official X environment.
Do you disagree with the measure? Then use the official appeal path. Do not create a new account immediately to bypass the restriction.
Which quick check should you do first?
Check the post from a second environment
Copy the direct address and open it in a private window. Then view the same address from an approved follower and from an account that does not follow you.
Can the follower see the post but an outsider cannot? Then account protection is a likely cause. Can you see the direct post everywhere, but it does not show in search? Then check search filters and sensitive content settings.
Does the browser work but the app does not? Update the app and close it completely. That quickly tells you whether it is a visibility issue or a local loading error.
How do you solve the problem step by step?
Work from a simple check toward a more serious solution:
- Check whether the post was actually published.
- Open the direct address of the post.
- Check the Posts and Posts and replies tabs.
- Test the post from a second account.
- Check whether your account is protected.
- Search with Latest using exact words from the post.
- Check sensitive media and safe search filters.
- Look for labels on the post or notices on your account.
- Update the X app.
- Test via x.com in a browser.
- Revoke access for any suspicious third-party app.
- Contact support if there is a clear error.
Stop as soon as you find the cause. Do not change your privacy, password, app, and media settings all at once. If you change several things at the same time, you will not know which step fixed the problem.
When does clearing cache or signing in again help?
Clearing cache only helps with a local display issue
If the browser shows the post but the app does not, a local app error may be the cause. First close the app completely and restart the device. Then update the app.
On Android, you can usually clear only the temporary cache of the X app through system settings. Do not accidentally choose to clear all app data. On iPhone, there is not always a separate cache button. Reinstalling the app is more drastic and will require a new sign-in afterwards.
Signing out does not remove your published posts from X. However, you may lose local drafts, saved logins, or temporary app data. So first check whether you have your password and extra verification method ready.
Do not sign out if you no longer have access to the linked email address or phone number. Solve the account access issue first.
Can third-party apps hide or delete posts?
A connected service can publish posts on your behalf. Depending on the permissions you gave it, such a service may also perform other actions. If you notice unexpected changes, check which apps have access to your X account.
Revoke access for services you do not recognize or no longer use. Change your password if you see unwanted activity. Then check active sessions and enable extra account security.
A scheduling service may show a post as failed even though it was never sent to X. So always check the real X profile. Do not rely only on the dashboard of an external app.
Do not share your password with a service that should only ask for an official connection to your account.
Why are videos or media not showing?
If the text is visible but the video does not load, you likely have a media problem, not a completely missing post. Test the video over Wi-Fi and mobile data. Update the app and open the post in a browser.
Also check whether X shows a sensitive-content warning. The video may still exist, but it will only appear after confirmation.
Use the specific steps in X Twitter DMs not working when only videos are causing problems.
Do not delete the whole post before you know the upload really failed. Always keep the original media file.
When should you contact X support?
Contact X support when:
- X shows a restriction that you believe is incorrect;
- your account remains restricted after the official verification steps;
- posts were removed without your action;
- you unexpectedly see protected posts as public;
- a technical problem continues on both the app and the website;
- you cannot access a necessary appeal path.
Take screenshots of the notice. Note the direct address, time, device used, and app version. Describe exactly where the post is and is not visible.
Never send your password or verification code. Real support does not need those details to investigate a visibility problem.
How do you keep posts from looking unfindable again?
Keep important text and media outside X. After publishing, note the direct address. That way, you can later check whether the post still exists, even if it no longer appears in the profile view.
Complete your profile and confirm your email address. Do not post a series of identical messages and do not use too many hashtags. When using sensitive media, always apply the correct marking.
Review connected apps and active sessions every month. Use a strong, unique password and turn on extra verification.
For an organization, create a simple publishing list with the date, topic, and direct address. That helps you tell the difference between a missing post, the wrong account, a failed schedule, or a normal search limitation.
Are only private messages not working? Then follow the separate check for X Twitter DMs not working.
If the technical problem is solved and you want to build more reach afterwards, you can also choose buy Twitter followers or buy Twitter likes alongside strong content. These services do not fix an outage, search filter, or account restriction. So always check first whether your posts are visible normally.
Frequently asked questions about posts that do not show
Why is my post on my profile but not in search?
X does not show every post in search. Check account protection, confirmed account details, sensitive content, safe search filters, and the Latest tab.
Does updating the X app help?
Yes, if the issue is a local loading problem. First test in a browser. If the post appears there, updating the app is a logical next step.
Does clearing cache delete my posts?
Clearing the temporary app cache does not remove published posts from X. Do not clear all app data without first checking your login details and local drafts.
Does this check work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The routes to the system cache differ, but the main test is the same: check the direct link, your profile, a second account, search, and a browser.
Why can’t someone see my reply?
With protected posts, someone who does not follow you cannot see your reply. Reply ranking, a hidden reply, or a visibility restriction can also play a role.
Is my post deleted if it is not in search?
No. X does not show all posts in search results. Open the direct address and check your profile to see whether the post still exists.
Why does a follower not see my post in the timeline?
A timeline does not automatically show every post from every followed account. The chosen timeline, ranking, mutes, and temporary loading problems can all have an effect. Ask the follower to check your profile and the direct link too.
When is support the best next step?
Support is the best step when you see an incorrect restriction, suspect an unwanted removal, or when the problem keeps happening across multiple devices, connections, and accounts.
Which solution fits your situation now?
If the post is nowhere and the direct address does not work, check deletion, account notices, and connected apps. If it is on your profile but not in search, check privacy, sensitive content, and search filters. If only the app fails, update it and test in a browser.
Change only one part at a time. Keep proof of notices and use only official appeal routes. That way, you solve the real problem without accidentally making your privacy or account access worse.
If you want to promote live content after solving the problem, buy Twitter livestream views is an additional option. Here too, first check whether the livestream is public and displayed correctly technically.
